Latest news and information about the New Jersey Devils.

Yahoo! Sports
  • Devils Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

It's one thing to lose. It's another thing to lose when you're not performing.

Even if you win ugly, it's a bad sign for a hockey team to not be bringing it every night.

"That's four in five games," Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner said after Tuesday's loss at Carolina. "That's not a good thing.

"We've gotten away with a couple of them, but it's something we definitely have to stop."

The Devils are 3-2 in the last five games but really didn't play well in winning at St. Louis. Devils coach Brent Sutter admits it's a concern.

The Devils play host to Atlanta on Thursday and then hit the road for six, including a trip out west.

  • NHL Capsules (AP)
Sergei Samsonov scored his 200th career goal and the Carolina Hurricanes withstood a late rally to beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2 Tuesday night. Ray Whitney and Tuomo Ruutu also scored for the Hurricanes, who extended their winning streak to a season-high four games. Cam Ward continued his recent surge for the Hurricanes, making 26 saves.

  • Samsonov leads Hurricanes past Devils, 3-2 (AP)

Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward falls to the ice as New Jersey Devils' Patrik Elias (26) celebrates his goal during the third period of an NHL hockey game in Raleigh, N.C., Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009. Carolina won 3-2.

With his team down three against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night, New Jersey coach Brent Sutter pulled his goalie when the Devils got a power play with about 9 minutes left in the game. The catch was that move put extra pressure on his son, Brandon, who was trying to kill the penalty for the Hurricanes.

Ottawa Senators' Chris Kelly, right, puts the puck into the net for a goal past New Jersey Devils goaltender Scott Clemmensen during the third period of an NHL hockey game Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, in Newark, N.J. The Devils beat the Senators 4-3 in overtime.

The New Jersey Devils signed Brian Rolston to quarterback the power play. The move is paying off now. Back up to speed after an ankle injury, Rolston scored a power-play goal 1:43 into overtime to give the Devils a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night. Rolston's winner came on a slap shot from about 40 feet with Senators defenseman Brian Lee and Devils forward Brian Gionta standing...

  • Clemmensen stops 33, Devils beat Canadiens 4-1 (AP)

Montreal Canadiens' Max Pacioretty, right, celebrates his first-period goal with teammate Steve Begin (22) against the New Jersey Devils during an NHL hockey game at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. The Devils defeated the Canadiens 4-1.

New Jersey Devils coach Brent Sutter was confident his team would bounce back from a disappointing loss against Dallas on New Year's Eve. The Devils rewarded Sutter with a solid 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night. Scott Clemmensen made 33 saves and Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise each had a goal and an assist.
